What is the Foundations of Leadership Program?

The Foundations of Leadership (FOL) program is your roadmap to developing the essential leadership skills you need today—and beyond graduation. This comprehensive, step-by-step leadership development program focuses on enhancing your personal and professional capabilities, giving you all the resources and knowledge you need to succeed.

Leadership Development That Fits Your Schedule

The FOL program is structured to be flexible and accommodating to your schedule, requiring a commitment of approximately 10 hours. Most students complete the program in one semester. The steps are divided into various modules and activities that you can complete at your own pace, ensuring that you can balance your academic and personal responsibilities while engaging in the program.

The Steps to Induction

As a member of the NSHCR, your learning starts with our five-step leadership development program to complete your Steps to Induction.

1. Orientation

Orientation is the first event for new members. This is your chance to meet fellow members, learn the steps you need to take to complete the program and check out the schedule of events for the semester. After orientation, build your leadership foundation with the DiSC personality assessment to learn more about yourself and discover how to communicate effectively as a leader at work, school, and in your community. This is your first step towards achieving better outcomes in all areas of your life!

2. Leadership Training Day

Take the first step toward unlocking your potential with Breaking Through the Top Five Myths to Resilience Building. This course is designed for individuals ready to stop telling themselves “I can’t” and start achieving their goals.

Through interactive video training, you’ll explore strategies to build resilience, overcome self-limiting beliefs, and break through the barriers holding you back. Identify your strengths, tackle challenges with confidence, and create a plan for personal and professional growth.

Completing this training sets you on the path to strong leadership and earns you your first digital badge—proof of your commitment and a standout addition to your resume.

3. Speaker Broadcasts

Our live-streamed Speaker Broadcasts let you connect with and learn from business leaders, celebrities, activists, best-selling authors, and more. Hosted six times per year, topics include leadership fundamentals, identifying goals, facing challenges, personal growth, and successfully transitioning from college to career. With Speaker Broadcasts, members also get the rare opportunity to engage with and learn from some of the world’s biggest names, such as Kevin Hart, Sheryl Sandberg. and Mark Cuban. Induction is where you’ll officially celebrate your incredible achievement of completing all the Steps to Induction. You’ll receive a Certificate of Leadership honoring your achievement and membership in the NSHCR. You may attend an on-campus or online ceremony where you’ll be recognized as a leader.

You'll also earn a second digital badge to showcase your hard work and dedication to the world.
